Collecting New or Gently Used Children's Books
One book can change
the life of a child in
rural villages!
BOOK COLLECTING
We collect new or gently used children's books. Children's books written in English are needed for rural elementary schools in Swaziland, Africa. We catalogue picture books, children's novels, and non-fiction books that are of interest to children aged 5-16. We also are sending dictionaries and thesauruses. Our partnerships with these rural schools benefits Canadians and Swazis alike.
FUNDRAISERS
We fundraise to ship a container overseas. In March, 2011, we sent a 20 foot container filled with books, desks, filing cabinets, chairs and other Library items. Several types of fundraisers will be done throughout this next year. Please check back often to see how you can participate!
TEACHER SUPPORT
Swazi educators recognize the need for literacy and easy access to books. However, books are expensive and most schools have very few books, if any, as resources to teachers. We have been able to do some basic training in using a Library and how to run a rural Library with several teachers from different schools across Swaziland. Teachers are learning how to use these books in the classroom as a teaching tool.

HOST A BOOK DRIVE
Engage your community or organization to donate new or gently used children's books. We collect picture books, children's novels, non fiction books as well as dictionaries and other teacher resources. Our goal is to have a ratio of 3 books per student in each school library to enable sufficient borrowing and teaching books.
Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible.

INVITE US TO YOUR NEXT MEETING
We would like to come and share the story of the Swaziland Library Project with your group. Our regular presentation is about 25 minutes long but we can adjust that to fit in with your group's schedule. There is no cost for us to attend with 100 km of the Cambridge, ON area, and a small fee to help cover transportation over that.
VOLUNTEER
There are several people that regularly volunteer their time once a week. We train interested people on the cataloguing software and labelling of the books. If you are interested in helping, please email stakra_golden.net and let us know your availability.
We are always looking for someone to help with fundraising events.
